How You Are Surrounded by Google?

How You Are Surrounded by Google?

Google is now not just limited search engine, it is more than that. You don't know but your regular internet activities are somehow related to or monitored by Google. I recently published an article on "How Facebook and Google are changing the way we use internet", which was about how internet giants like Facebook and Google are gathering each and every information about your internet use.

You might be knowing that Google is the #1 website in the world, visited by most people. Almost for everything I use Google products like G-mail for mailing, Google+ as a Social network(Facebook is boring now.), Blogger for blogging, YouTube which is now part of Google and there are lots of application that are connected with my single username and password.

Recently, about a month ago, Google went down for just a 1 minute taking down approximately 40 % of the internet traffic. Think, how would be the internet without Google?. There are lots of services or features that Google provide, and most of them are free. Just take a look at the following list:
  • Search (for searching the web)
  • Gmail (for mailing)
  • YouTube (For video sharing)
  • Google+ (Social network like Facebook)
  • Docs(now in Drive)
  • Maps (for finding places)
  • Buzz (social networking service integrated with Gmail)
  • Calendar (online calendar)
  • Blogger (everyone knows this, Web publishing tool)
  • Feed burner (news feed management service)
  • Analytics (traffic statistics generator for website)
  • Earth (virtual 3D Globe that uses satellite imagery)
  • Chrome (web browser from Google)
  • News (automated news compilation service and search engine for news)
  • iGoogle (Customizable homepage, will be discontinued from 1 November 2013.)
  • Picasa Web Albums (Online photo sharing)
  • Google Bookmarks (free online bookmark storage service )
  • Image Search (Image search engine)
  • Google Groups (web and email discussion service and Usenet archive)
  • Sites (Website creation tool for private or public groups)
  • Alerts (email notification service which send alerts whenever something news is added on the web with the keywords you specify)
  • And many more
Google Search is the most widely used feature of Google, but you might have used other services of Google such as Gmail for sending/receiving emails, YouTube for watching videos online, Image search for searching images around the web indexed by Google. Lots of people use Google products or services knowingly or unknowingly.

Can you imagine , if Google can take down 40% of  web traffic when is goes down just for 1 minute, what would happen, when it goes down for 1 day or week ? but that's not gonna happen because Google is taking care of this.

Google uses approximately 20 petabytes of data everyday( 1 petabyte is approximately 1,000,000,000,000,000 bytes.) This data is generated from queries that people use to search web. Most of the websites you use has a Google custom search tool for providing search facility for their website. So, the thing is that wherever you go whatever you do in the internet, Google is watching your every movement and gathering data about you and your activities to provide you with the personalized web experience.

Today's web would be different if Google wasn't their. Google has revolutionized the web we use today. So, in the end, Google is everywhere on the web, no matter wherever you go and whatever you do on the internet.
